Agentic Commerce Protocol

An open standard from OpenAI and Stripe that lets an AI agent complete checkout at a merchant it doesn't own.

Definition

The Agentic Commerce Protocol is an open standard, co-developed by OpenAI and Stripe, that defines how an AI agent can browse a merchant's product catalog and run checkout on a shopper's behalf. It covers building a cart, agreeing on what the agent is and isn't allowed to do, passing a narrowly scoped payment token instead of raw card details, and tracking the order afterward, while the merchant stays the merchant of record. It's the standard behind in-chat checkout features like ChatGPT's Instant Checkout, and it's meant to work with any payment provider, not just Stripe.
