Model Collapse

The gradual degradation of models trained too much on AI-generated data.

Definition

Model collapse is the gradual degradation that can happen when models are trained over and over on AI-generated data instead of real human data. Each generation loses some of the variety and rare cases of the original, so quality drifts and narrows. It is a growing concern as more of the internet becomes AI-written.
