Role Prompting
Asking a model to answer from a chosen persona or perspective.
Definition
Role prompting instructs a model to adopt a specific identity or perspective, such as 'You are an expert Python developer' or 'You are a Socratic tutor.' This framing shapes tone, vocabulary, level of detail, and reasoning style, and can lift quality on specialized or creative tasks. A role does not grant knowledge the model lacks, though, and overly dramatic personas can sometimes reduce factual accuracy.
