Stable Diffusion is a widely used open family of text-to-image models from Stability AI. It builds a picture by gradually removing noise, working on a compressed version of the image rather than pixel by pixel, which makes producing high-resolution images efficient. Because the weights are openly available, it spawned a large community of custom retrainings, lightweight add-on adaptations, tools that steer the layout of a generated image, and local apps. Later versions such as SDXL improved quality and added capabilities.
