Steps

How many rounds of cleanup an image generator runs while turning noise into a picture — more steps, slower but usually finer.

Definition

Steps is the setting that controls how many passes an image or video generator makes while refining random noise into a finished result. Each step removes a bit more noise, so more steps generally mean a cleaner, more detailed picture — but also a proportionally longer wait, and the gains flatten out quickly, with little visible difference past a few dozen. Too few steps leaves the image looking rough or unresolved. The right number depends heavily on the model and sampling method: ordinary models often use twenty to fifty, while distilled 'turbo' models are specially trained to produce good results in as few as one to four.
