A method that teaches a model when and how to call tools by training on its own examples.
Definition
Toolformer is a technique for teaching a language model to use external tools — like a calculator, search, or calendar — by having it generate and learn from its own examples of helpful tool calls. It showed that models can learn tool use largely on their own, with little human labeling.
