DALL-E is OpenAI's family of text-to-image models that generate pictures from plain-language descriptions and support editing, variations, and inpainting (redrawing just a selected part of an image). Later versions moved to a diffusion approach (building an image by gradually clearing away random noise) and improved how closely results follow the prompt, partly by training on richer image captions. DALL-E is integrated into ChatGPT and offered through OpenAI's image API, and remains a widely used proprietary image system.
