Groq

An AI hardware company whose LPU chip runs AI models very fast, with little delay.

Definition

Groq is an AI hardware company, founded in 2016 by former Google engineers, that designs the Language Processing Unit (LPU), a custom chip built only to run trained AI models (not train them). Its predictable, step-by-step design avoids the unpredictable timing of general-purpose graphics chips (GPUs), so it generates words quickly and with little delay. Groq runs GroqCloud, a service that lets developers use open models on LPU hardware.
