Human on the Loop

A person supervising a mostly autonomous system, ready to step in when needed.

Definition

Human on the loop describes a setup where a system runs mostly autonomously while a person monitors it and can intervene, pause, or override when something looks wrong. Unlike human-in-the-loop designs, the person does not approve each action but watches the overall behavior. It suits systems that must act quickly or at scale yet still need human oversight as a safety net.
